Hello world! Sorry we’ve been gone so long. It’s been a heck of year and a half! I work in a healthcare setting, and man has the last 18 months or so been a wild, busy ride. Didn’t mean to abandon the site for so long, but so many other things started taking off at the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020.
I used to do IT work for some places back where I grew up. I even started a computer club at my high school (around about 15 years ago, man it’s been forever!) because I’m passionate about using computers to solve problems. I kinda got back into that right at the end of 2019, just a few months before the ‘Rona set it. The demand for my IT skills only went up as many people were trying to work more from home or otherwise relying on technology to help them connect to work, friends, and family. At one point I was doing my normal job from 7am to 6 pm and then doing IT work for at least another 2 hours five to six days a week. It didn’t leave much time for blogging during the cold months of the year.
Then once spring and the warmer weather rolled in, we found ourselves investing a lot more time into gardening and securing some our own sources of food. If I hadn’t also been doing IT stuff, we could have made some posts about growing and harvesting food. Even if we wouldn’t have touched on the things we learned about gardening (there’s nothing tastier than preparing a meal with home-grown vegetables!), we would have been posting some tasty recipes with kale, Swiss chard, tomatoes, various kinds of squash, and lots more if only we would have had time. We had an even bigger garden this year (2021) than last, so even though I did less IT work this summer than the one before it, we just didn’t seem to have time to also keep up with the website. We just finished preserving the bulk of our 2021 harvest just a week or two ago, so that part of life will be calming down until next spring as we’ve only got pumpkins, squash, and some hearty greens left growing.
Since the weather is cooling off, I’m back to doing more IT work more often. I’m in the process of setting everything up so that I can publish, moderate, and otherwise run the site from my phone so that I can work on it as I have time. I’ve been thinking a lot the last year and a half, and I’ve decided that I’d like to alter the scope and purpose of this site. From here forward, we’re going to be less focused on cooking and kitchen skills. Instead, we’ll be talking about the skills and challenges we’re tackling as a family. That means you’ll probably be reading bits and pieces about a lot of wildly different subjects. One week it might be about some IT skills that I needed to utilize to help someone. Then it could be about what I had to do to get our trimmer or wood chipper running. Maybe some posts will be about controlling garden pests or utilizing food scraps to make your garden healthier. You get the idea, it could be about almost anything as long as we think there’s someone that could find it useful!
That’s all for now, just wanted to give a update and apologize for the 6 seasons of radio silence. Be good to one another; you never know what hardship or burden someone else is silently carrying.
Let us know what you and your kids think…
